Delhi CM Rekha Gupta reviews MCD work, plans waste-to-energy plants and sanitation upgrades

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta chaired a review meeting to assess the functioning and ongoing projects of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, with a focus on waste management, sanitation, and urban infrastructure. The meeting brought together senior officials, including the city’s mayor and administrative heads, to evaluate current challenges and outline further steps. During the discussion, the Chief Minister directed the civic body to strengthen waste management systems and improve overall cleanliness across the capital. Plans were outlined to establish waste-to-energy plants equipped with modern technology in areas such as Ghazipur, Narela, Okhla, and Tehkhand. These facilities are expected to process waste more efficiently while contributing to energy generation.

In addition, the redevelopment of nearly 1,000 public toilets and urinal blocks managed by the municipal corporation was highlighted as part of efforts to improve sanitation infrastructure. Officials were also instructed to expedite the setup of biogas plants in Goyla Dairy, Ghogha, and Ghazipur, aimed at better waste utilization. The meeting also addressed enforcement measures, with directions to ensure stricter implementation and collection of fines imposed for littering. Authorities were asked to formulate strategies to improve compliance and maintain cleanliness standards. Coordination between the municipal corporation and the Delhi Development Authority was emphasized to ensure regular cleaning in market areas.

Special attention was given to cleanliness drives along railway tracks, with instructions to intensify and regularize waste removal campaigns in such zones. The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of quality in road construction and repair works, directing that experienced companies be assigned these tasks to ensure accountability. Officials were instructed to closely monitor all projects and ensure completion within stipulated timelines. The meeting was attended by senior representatives, including the Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh, Standing Committee Chairperson Satya Sharma, Leader of the House Pravesh Wahi, Chief Secretary Rajiv Verma, and Municipal Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar, among others.
