The rising temperatures have started affecting the plants kept in gardens and balconies in homes, making it especially challenging for the money plant (pothos).
Many people are complaining that their plants have started drying up in the first week of April itself. But there is nothing to worry about. If given proper care, this plant will not only survive, but may even grow back lusher and bushier than before.
Giving too much water to the money plant in summer can cause the roots to rot, while giving less water can cause the leaves to dry up. Therefore, water only when the top 2 inches of the soil becomes dry. It is better to water in the morning so that the excess moisture dries up. A useful tip is to keep a tray filled with water at the bottom of the pot, so that the roots can get the moisture they need.
Money plant does not like direct sunlight. Place it on an east or north facing window, where it gets indirect light. Keeping it in too much shade can cause the leaves to fade. If you are keeping it in the balcony, it is necessary to protect it from strong afternoon sunlight; A place with light shade is most suitable.
Remove dust by wiping the leaves with a damp cloth every 7-10 days. In summer, lightly spray water on the leaves from a spray bottle. This keeps the plant fresh and prevents it from drying up. Keep in mind that water should not remain on the leaves too much, otherwise fungus may develop.
Add bone meal or compost every 15-20 days. By lightly pruning long vines, side branches emerge and the plant becomes dense. Keep removing old yellow leaves regularly, so that new green leaves grow faster.
Keep the plant away from direct air of air conditioner or cooler in summer. Improve drainage by adding some sand to the soil. If leaves are yellowing excessively, use a light solution of water-soluble fertilizer. By adopting these suggestions, your money plant will remain beautiful during the summer season.
