Elon Musk’s company, X, is soon going to launch its new XChat app. This will be a standalone messaging app, designed specifically for privacy and secure chatting. Let's take a closer look...
Elon Musk’s company, X, is preparing to launch a new standalone messaging app—‘XChat’—for its users in the near future. According to reports, this app could become available to iPhone and iPad users as early as April 17. The app is currently listed on the App Store for pre-order, allowing users to reserve it in advance so that it downloads automatically the moment it is released.
What Special Features Will XChat Offer?
XChat has been designed not merely as a chat app, but as an advanced communication platform. According to reports, the app will fully support end-to-end encryption, ensuring that sent messages can be read only by the sender and the recipient. Additionally, users will have the ability to edit and delete messages. If a message is deleted, it will be removed from the chat history for all participants. The app will also feature a screenshot-blocking function, preventing anyone from capturing screenshots of your chats and thereby further bolstering privacy.
Will XChat Include "Disappearing Messages" and Group Chat Features?
Another standout feature of this app is its "Disappearing Messages" function. Users will have the option to set their messages to automatically delete after just five minutes. This feature could prove particularly useful for individuals sharing sensitive or confidential information. Furthermore, XChat will support large group chats, allowing up to approximately 481 participants to join a single conversation. It will also include a cross-device calling feature, enabling users to make calls seamlessly across different devices.
Which Devices Will This App Work On?
According to the company, this new app will be entirely focused on privacy and will be completely ad-free. Additionally, it is being claimed that the app will not track users, potentially making it a secure and private messaging platform. This app will work on Apple devices running iOS and iPadOS 26 or higher.
