SSC: The examinations conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) are considered to be of immense importance to the lakhs of aspirants preparing for government jobs. Every year, a large number of candidates appear for the various recruitment examinations organized by the SSC. However, candidates have often faced disadvantages during examinations due to incorrect questions, ambiguous phrasing, or technical glitches. For a long time, aspirants have been lodging complaints regarding these issues.
There have been numerous protests, and some cases have even reached the courts. Taking all these circumstances into consideration, the SSC has decided to implement significant changes aimed at making the examination process more transparent, fair, and reliable. This new framework is set to be implemented starting in 2026 and is expected to provide considerable relief to the candidates.
What changes has the SSC made to the examination system?
The SSC has announced the implementation of a new objection management system for its computer-based examinations. Under this new system, candidates will be given the opportunity to register their objections after the examination, thereby allowing for the rectification of potential errors.
If any question in the examination is found to be incorrect, incomplete, or unclear, it will be removed. Most importantly, full marks for such questions will be awarded to all examinees. This ensures that no candidate suffers a disadvantage due to the presence of an erroneous question.
Why was this decision taken?
This decision was taken following complaints lodged by students, questions raised through RTI (Right to Information) applications, and observations made by the courts. In recent times, candidates across the country have staged protests against certain examinations due to the occurrence of incorrect questions and technical malfunctions. This move by the SSC is being hailed as a significant step toward making the examination process more transparent and equitable. With the implementation of these new rules, candidates will no longer have to worry about losing marks due to incorrect questions.
Facility to Register Objections against the Answer Key
According to the new system, once the examination concludes, the SSC will first release a provisional (temporary) answer key. Candidates will be able to review this answer key and register their objections against it. Subsequently, subject matter experts will scrutinize these objections, following which the final answer key will be released. This will provide an opportunity to correct incorrect answers or questions.
If a question has more than one correct answer, full marks will be awarded to those candidates who have selected the correct option. Conversely, the rule regarding negative marking for incorrect answers will continue to apply as before.
**Questions Outside the Syllabus and Language-Related Rules**
If any question in the examination is found to fall outside the prescribed syllabus, it will be removed, and full marks for that question will be awarded to all candidates. However, according to the SSC, such instances are rarely observed. Furthermore, the Commission has clarified that candidates must take the examination in the specific language they selected at the time of applying. The question paper will be available in both Hindi and English; however, it is mandatory to provide answers in the specific language that the candidate had previously chosen.
