Perplexity AI has announced a fivefold revenue increase, reaching $500 million while limiting headcount growth to 34%. This significant revenue surge, coupled with a recent agentic pivot to Perplexity Computer, highlights the company's focus on AI-driven productivity gains. The platform now orchestrates 19 specialized AI models, underscoring its multi-model approach.

Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas announced in a social media post on Monday that the AI search company has grown its revenue fivefold, from $100 million to $500 million, while keeping headcount growth at 34%.

"Perplexity is still a startup. We just 5X’ed revenue from $100M to $500M with only 34% growth in team size. 2x revenue growth in 2026 with same small team," he wrote on X. "And we're just warming up."

Growing revenue 5x while expanding the team by only a third is what AI-native companies have been referencing as a new benchmark for productivity gains with AI.

Competing with giants in the crowded AI search space, Perplexity has seen steady expansion, with its annual recurring revenue (ARR) growing from $16 million to $305 million over two years, the Financial Times reported earlier this month, adding that the metric had crossed $450 million as of March. According to the report, Perplexity’s revenue surged 50% in just a month on the back of its agentic push.

Talking about the company's latest agentic pivot, Perplexity Computer, Srinivas said it brings the company back to its original identity. "Perplexity started as a small business tool for ourselves. We had 4 people and no revenue with AI at our fingertips. The pivot to Computer is actually a full circle," he wrote.

Perplexity Computer, unveiled in February, is a unified system that brings together files, tools, memory, and AI models — all working in coordination.

The core idea is that no single AI model excels at everything, so Perplexity Computer is built to be multi-model by design. Each model is treated as a specialised tool – similar to how a computer's operating system calls on different programs for different jobs.

Srinivas says the system currently orchestrates 19 models, with each handling a different function: one for reasoning, one for coding, one for writing, and so on.

Perplexity was founded in 2022 by Srinivas, Denis Yarats, Andy Konwinski, and Johnny Ho, with Srinivas previously having worked at OpenAI, Google Brain, and DeepMind. The startup was valued at $20 billion in September 2025, a significant rise from $500 million at the beginning of 2024.
