Bengaluru: State-owned IndianOil has ramped up Auto LPG supplies in Bengaluru by nearly 300% to address a sharp surge in demand triggered by geopolitical disruptions impacting private sector supply chains.

On April 15, the company supplied 75.53 metric tonnes (MT) of Auto LPG in the city, significantly higher than its pre-crisis daily average of about 23 MT. The increase comes as IndianOil steps in to stabilise fuel availability for Bengaluru’s transport ecosystem, the company said in a press statement.

At the state level, supplies have also been scaled up. IndianOil’s daily dispatches across Karnataka have crossed 83 MT in recent days, almost doubling from the earlier average of around 43.5 MT per day, the statement added.

The spike in demand follows disruptions at private Auto LPG dispensing stations (ALDS), which typically account for nearly 80% of the market in Bengaluru and across Karnataka. The shutdown or limited operations of these outlets have redirected consumers to IndianOil’s retail network, leading to long queues at its ALDS stations.

The PSU, in response, has implemented a series of operational measures. All its ALDS outlets in Bengaluru are functioning without interruption, while LPG bottling plants and loading facilities operated throughout the past week to meet elevated demand.

IndianOil acknowledged the inconvenience caused to customers due to extended waiting times and said it is working to maximise product availability. The company added that it continues to closely monitor the situation and is taking proactive steps to stabilise supplies and minimise disruptions across the state.
