Signs of Academic Pressure: In today’s competitive era, teaching children is no less than a big challenge for parents. It is often seen that children start feeling tired or suddenly become irritable as soon as they hear the name of studies. Many parents scold their children considering it to be laziness or arbitrariness, but according to psychologists, this behavior may not be laziness but the result of mental fatigue and academic pressure. Small children are not able to express their feelings in words, hence their stress comes out through behavior.

Hidden reasons behind child’s irritability

A child getting angry during studies, repeatedly making excuses or becoming lethargic indicates many deeper problems. The main reason behind this is the excessive expectations of the parents. When children are compared with other children, an inferiority complex develops in their minds. Apart from this, studying for a long time without any break and getting severe punishment for small mistakes starts discouraging the child from studies. In such a situation, the child becomes afraid not of the subject but of the process of study itself.

Parents should keep this in mind

  • The first step to reduce your child’s stress is to spend quality time with them. Parents should behave friendly with the child so that he can openly express his problems.
  • Excessive strictness during studies can make the child mentally weak and rebellious. By explaining with love and patience, the child’s stress is halved and his learning ability increases.
  • Every child’s learning speed is different. Compare his progress with his past performance and not with anyone else.

Change in lifestyle and diet

  • Along with mental health, physical nutrition is also essential for the brain development of children.
  • Include soaked almonds and walnuts in children’s diet. They are rich in omega-3 fatty acids which help in improving memory and concentration.
  • Let children spend time with nature. Bookish knowledge alone is not enough. Sports and physical activities release happy hormones in their body which makes them feel less burdened with studies.

A child is like a tender plant which needs affection and understanding more than discipline. If your child cries or gets tired in the name of studies, instead of scolding him, try to understand his mood. Only a positive environment can make the child’s future bright and stress-free.
