Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann attended a public event in Attari, Amritsar district, where he inaugurated and dedicated a series of development projects aimed at improving infrastructure and services in the border region. The projects include road upgrades worth ₹57.80 crore, focusing on enhancing connectivity across the Attari constituency. According to officials, a total of 121 link roads will be renovated under this initiative. These upgrades are expected to improve transportation between villages and nearby towns, making daily commuting easier and supporting local economic activity.
The event also highlighted developments in the education and healthcare sectors. Institutions such as Schools of Eminence and Aam Aadmi Clinics are already functioning in the district, providing services to residents. In addition, a new government college is being constructed in Ajnala with an estimated cost of ₹15 crore, which is expected to expand access to higher education in the area. In the agricultural sector, the government has undertaken a large-scale irrigation initiative aimed at reviving canals and distributaries. With an investment of around ₹6,500 crore, the project is intended to ensure the supply of canal water to tail-end areas in more than 1,400 villages, helping farmers improve crop productivity and reduce dependency on other water sources.
The Chief Minister also referred to ongoing discussions with the central government regarding issues faced by farmers in border areas. An agreement has been reached to move the barbed wire fencing further ahead, which is expected to reduce difficulties faced by farmers in accessing their land. To address concerns related to illegal cross-border activities, anti-drone systems have been installed along the border. These systems are aimed at strengthening surveillance and preventing smuggling and other unlawful activities. The event was attended by local representatives, officials, and residents. The projects are expected to improve infrastructure, enhance service delivery, and address key challenges faced by people living in border regions.
