According to reports, Gemini is available to all users, including users of the app’s free tier. But users need to have a supported version of the operating system. After this big decision, Google’s chatbot will now compete directly with chatbots like ChatGPT, Cloud and Perplexity for Apple’s user base.

In a post shared on social media platform X, Google CEO Sundar Pichai has announced the introduction of Google’s AI chatbot Gemini for Mac devices. He said that the initial version was built using the company’s agentic platform AntiGravity and the prototype was built in a few days. Gemini’s native desktop experience for macOS comes with many features. For users to quickly open the app on any screen, the AI chatbot will support ‘Option + Space’ shortcut. In a blog post, the company explained that this shortcut will eliminate the need for users to open a separate window each time they seek help from the AI chatbot.
Window sharing facility is also available in Gemini app. Users can share any open window in a browser or other app with Google’s chatbot, and the chatbot instantly understands the contents of that window and responds accordingly. This feature also supports local files. Therefore, users can ask questions about a work report or a complex document without having to upload the file themselves. Additionally, users with a subscription can share images using Nano Banana Pro and create videos using Veo 3.1.
