Within just 24 hours the situation changed such that the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important sea routes, was closed again. All this happened amid the ongoing tension between America and Iran and the ending ceasefire. Let us understand how all this happened.
By Friday there was hope that the situation might improve. US President Donald Trump welcomed Iran's statement, which said that the Strait of Hormuz is completely open and ships can move easily. On Friday, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also said on social media platform X that the route has been opened and the routes of the ships will be coordinated.
The impact of this news was immediately visible and within a few hours the prices of crude oil fell by about 10%. The world felt that now the situation could become normal. But this relief did not last long. Iran's own semi-official media Tasnim criticized Araghchi's statement and said that he did not provide clear information about the conditions and rules of the route, which created confusion.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, Trump said that America will continue its blockade on Iran's ports until a final agreement is reached between the two countries. This statement provoked Iran again. After some time the situation changed completely. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that the Strait of Hormuz has been closed again.
The IRGC warned that any ship that comes near this area will be considered aiding the enemy and could be attacked. On Saturday, Iran's army also made it clear that until America ends its blockade, there will be strict restrictions on the movement of merchant ships. To show this, on Saturday, firing was done on two ships about 20 miles away from the coast of Oman. According to the captain of the ship, this attack was carried out by Iranian gunboats.
Meanwhile, a strict message also came from Iran's new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. He said that Iran's Navy is fully prepared to give a new and crushing defeat to its enemies.
