2 American citizens have been detained at Srinagar Airport. The airport security team had found a banned 'Garmin' satellite phone/tracker in his luggage during a routine check. One of these citizens has been identified as Jeffrey Scott Prather. Officials said that both of them have been handed over to the police and they are being interrogated.

Let us tell you that it is very difficult to track a Garmin satellite phone. In a sensitive area like Jammu and Kashmir, there is a special danger of its misuse for terrorism and illegal activities. Along with this, considering the sensitivity in the border area, its recovery from American citizens at the airport has raised many questions.

What do the rules say?

In India, there is a ban on the use of satellite phones without government approval. According to the guidelines, travelers are required to obtain written permission from the Department of Telecommunications before carrying or using satellite communication devices in the country.
