Only a few days are left for the West Bengal elections, but before that there are reports of continuous clashes between BJP and Trinamool Congress (TMC). Meanwhile, a TMC worker was fatally attacked late on Sunday night, in which he was seriously injured. The injured worker has been identified as Divyendu Gayen. TMC leaders have accused BJP of being behind the attack.
The incident took place at around 11 pm on Sunday night in Bhupendrapur area of Shambhunagar Gram Panchayat of Gosaba, South 24 Parganas. According to the information, Divyendu Gayen was returning home on a motorcycle after finishing the party work. Meanwhile, some unknown miscreants sitting in ambush suddenly opened fire on them. The bullet hit him in his right thigh, due to which he fell on the roadside.
Meanwhile, the local people who reached the spot after the incident immediately picked up Divyendu and took him to Canning Sub-Divisional Hospital for treatment. After first aid, in view of his critical condition, he was referred to Chittaranjan National Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata, where his treatment is ongoing.
After this attack, TMC leaders have made serious allegations against BJP. He says that this attack has been done as part of a political conspiracy. However, no official response has come yet from BJP in this matter.
Meanwhile, the police has started investigating the matter and efforts are being made to identify the attackers involved in the incident. After the incident, there is an atmosphere of tension in the area, due to which security arrangements have been increased.
According to police and local sources, Divyendu Gayen is an active TMC worker. A political meeting is to be organized in Gosaba on April 22 in support of TMC candidate Subrata Mandal. Dibyendu had attended the meeting held with party leaders and workers regarding this meeting on Sunday evening. He was shot while returning from the meeting. At present the police is investigating the motive behind the attack.
