Wars in the world have devastated many countries. While these wars bring devastation to many countries, for many countries wars prove to be a profitable deal. The big powers of the world like America, Russia, China etc. earn huge profits by selling their weapons in the ongoing conflicts around the world. Now another player is going to make its place in this arms market. The cabinet of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has lifted the ban on the export of dangerous weapons including fighter jets, making a major change in the Constitution of Japan after the Second World War.

Announcing the changes in a post on Twitter on Tuesday, Takaichi did not specify which weapons Japan would now sell abroad. However, Japanese newspapers said the changes would include fighter jets, missiles and warships, which Japan has recently agreed to build for Australia.

Sale will be done as per UN Charter

Takaichi said that with this change, the transfer of all defense equipment would actually become possible and said that the only countries that would receive equipment would be those that promise to use it in accordance with the UN Charter. Takaichi said, “In an increasingly serious security environment, no single country can anymore protect its peace and security alone.”

Which countries will be able to buy weapons from Japan?

Japan's Chunichi newspaper said in its report that under these changes, at least 17 countries will be eligible to buy weapons made in Japan and said that this list can be increased if more countries make bilateral agreements with Japan. According to a report in Japan's Asahi newspaper, under previous rules introduced in 1967 and implemented in 1976, Japanese military exports were limited only to non-lethal weapons, such as weapons used for surveillance and mine sweeping.
