A public interest litigation (PIL) has been submitted to the Delhi High Court, alleging that court proceedings involving former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal were recorded and disseminated without permission. The petition also calls for the removal of such content from social media platforms. This case pertains to a hearing that took place on April 13, 2026, before Justice Swarn Kanta Sharma, where Kejriwal appeared personally to argue for the recusal of the judge in a case related to the Delhi liquor policy investigation being conducted by central agencies like the CBI and ED.
The petition, filed by lawyer Vaibhav Singh, asserts that the court proceedings, lasting approximately 45 to 50 minutes, were recorded without authorization and subsequently spread widely on platforms such as X, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. It is claimed that the videos and audio clips were shared in a manner that created a misleading narrative, damaging the image of the judiciary. Several leaders from the Aam Aadmi Party and other political parties are accused of actively posting and resharing these recordings, including names like Digvijay Singh and Saurabh Bhardwaj.
The petition also mentions journalist Ravish Kumar and other notable personalities, along with political figures such as Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh, Sanjeev Jha, Pradeep Sahni, Jarnail Singh, Mukesh Ahlawat, and Vinay Mishra, who allegedly shared or circulated the court proceedings on social media, leading to widespread dissemination of the information.
The petition argues that recording and publishing court proceedings in this manner violates the "Delhi High Court (Video Conferencing for Courts) Rules, 2021" and the "Electronic Evidence and Video Conferencing Rules, 2025," which prohibit unauthorized recording or sharing of court hearings without consent. Highlighting the seriousness of the incident, the petition contends that such dissemination undermines the dignity of the court and could erode public trust in the judicial system. The petitioner seeks an order for the immediate removal of the alleged recordings and appropriate legal action against those responsible. A hearing on this matter is expected to occur soon.
