A horrific case has come to light from Bengaluru where a 27-year-old woman has been accused of murdering her boyfriend after allegedly luring him into a trap under the pretext to propose him.

According to reports, the incident took place within the limits of the Byadarahalli Police Station.

The accused, identified as Prema alias Prerna, and the victim, Kiran, both aged 27, had been in a relationship for over a year and worked together at a mobile store near Rajajinagar.

According to reports, tensions had been building in their relationship, with frequent arguments reportedly stemming from Prerna’s suspicion that Kiran was distancing himself and not giving her enough attention.

As per a News18 report, Prerna allegedly called Kiran to her residence when no one else was at home, telling him she wanted to surprise him with a dramatic proposal inspired by “foreign trends.” Trusting her, Kiran agreed. She reportedly recorded the event also.

She reportedly then asked him to partially undress, blindfolded him, and tied his hands and legs to a chair, claiming it was part of the proposal setup. When Kiran questioned the tightness of the ropes, she reportedly reassured him that it was necessary for the “style” of the proposal.

Moments later, however, she allegedly poured kerosene over him and set him ablaze. Investigators suspect that the act may have been recorded on her mobile phone.

Initially, Prerna is said to have tried to mislead authorities by claiming she was in the washroom when she heard a loud noise and rushed out to find Kiran on fire, suggesting it was a case of self-immolation. However, inconsistencies in her statement and the absence of any fuel container near the victim raised suspicion. Police believe the kerosene had been arranged in advance.

The accused has been taken into custody and is currently being questioned.

The victim’s body has been sent for post-mortem, while forensic teams are examining the scene and digital evidence, including any possible video recordings, to reconstruct the sequence of events. Investigators are also probing the couple’s relationship history and prior disputes to establish the exact motive behind the killing.

The incident has sent shockwaves across the city, raising concerns over escalating relationship violence and the disturbing nature of the crime.
