Transforming Cow Dung into a Profitable Venture

In Hinduism, the cow is revered not merely as an animal but as a mother figure. The significance of the cow is profound, with its dung and urine being considered beneficial. Many individuals are capitalizing on cow dung, with Dr. Shiv Darshan Malik from Haryana earning between 5 to 6 million rupees annually through this business.

Dr. Malik has initiated a project that encourages the construction of eco-friendly homes using cow dung. He is producing cement, paint, and bricks from cow dung and inspiring others to follow suit. Furthermore, he has trained over 100 individuals in this innovative approach.

Coming from a farming background, Dr. Malik was previously a college lecturer. However, he left his teaching job several years ago to focus on creating products from cow dung, which he has been doing for the past five to six years. He has established a training center in Bikaner, where he teaches others how to make these products, charging a fee of 21,000 rupees for the training.

His inspiration for building eco-friendly homes and promoting environmental cleanliness came from his travels abroad. Years ago, he visited the USA and England for work, where he observed the construction of eco-friendly homes, which he later implemented upon returning to India.

One of the unique features of homes built with cow dung is their ability to maintain a comfortable temperature, remaining cool in summer and warm in winter. Dr. Malik was the first to utilize this method, which gradually gained popularity among his neighbors. He initially produced cement from cow dung and later expanded to paint and bricks.

Expanding Reach Across States

Dr. Malik's business has gained significant traction in Haryana and has expanded to several states, including Bihar, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh. He generates approximately 6 million rupees annually from marketing 5,000 tons of cement, along with sales of paint and bricks.

Eco-Friendly Cement Production Process

Dr. Malik has also shared his formula for creating eco-friendly cement from cow dung. He incorporates gypsum, guar gum, clay, and lemon powder into the mixture, which he has named 'Vedic Plaster.'
