Charging points have become an integral part of the daily lives of common people. However, the railways have specific regulations regarding their usage. Let's take a look at what those rules are.

Specific Rules for Charging Points

Charging points are installed in every coach of a train. There isn't just one or two; rather, there is a dedicated charging point for every individual seat. With their help, you can charge your phone, laptop, or any other electronic device. However, few people are aware that the charging points on trains do not remain active for the full 24 hours. Instead, they are switched off at a fixed time at night—specifically at 11:00 PM—and are subsequently switched back on several hours later, at 5:00 AM the following morning.

Why Was This Rule Established?

This rule was not implemented by the railways merely to conserve electricity; rather, it is rooted in the interest of passenger safety. Let us explain why it is essential to switch off charging points on trains:

Many people forget to unplug their mobile phones or laptops while charging them overnight as they sleep, which can be quite dangerous.
Continuous charging over an extended period can cause the device to overheat.
This increases the risk of a fire breaking out on the train.
Note: The rules may vary slightly for different trains; therefore, there may be some minor variations in the specific timings depending on the train service. Leaving devices switched on overnight can be quite risky; as such, this constitutes a commendable safety measure on the part of the railways. Therefore, the next time you travel by train, ensure that you fully charge your phone or any other device before 11:00 PM—otherwise, you will not be able to charge it until the following morning.
