The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond, directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, premiered in theaters on February 27, 2026. The film quickly became a topic of heated debate, facing backlash, legal challenges, and accusations of promoting communal narratives. This film acts as a spiritual successor to the 2023 release, The Kerala Story, and had a moderate box office performance. On April 24, it was revealed that The Kerala Story 2 will be available for streaming, just 70 days after its theatrical debut.
The film is set to debut on ZEE5 on May 8, 2026. With a runtime of 2 hours and 11 minutes, it delves into themes surrounding alleged love jihad, coerced religious conversions, and the manipulation of young Hindu women.
The Kerala Story 2 – Goes Beyond narrates the experiences of three young women from various regions of India whose lives are drastically altered by relationships that lead to manipulation and forced conversions. A 16-year-old from Rajasthan is coerced into conversion by a man, prompting her family to file a POCSO complaint. Another woman from Madhya Pradesh, initially believing she was in a loving relationship, finds herself trapped in a deceptive marriage that strips her of her freedom. Additionally, a liberal woman from Kerala enters a live-in relationship with a journalist named Salim, who later exerts coercive control over her.
The narrative suggests an alleged organized effort to alter India's demographic landscape by converting Hindu women to Islam through deceitful means. The film portrays the harrowing experiences of women subjected to torture, captivity, and pressure to abandon their faith, including scenes depicting forced dietary changes.
In response to the allegations of propaganda surrounding The Kerala Story 2, producer Vipul Shah emphasized their commitment to telling the stories of these women despite criticism. He stated, "Label it propaganda if you wish; we stand with the victims and will persist in seeking justice for them." Shah cautioned that neglecting uncomfortable truths only exacerbates issues, asserting that ignoring a state's problems allows them to fester. The film's official synopsis claims to address what the creators describe as "a significant agenda of manipulative conversion."
