Credit card and online banking scams are becoming increasingly common, affecting even celebrities. Recently, Ayushmaan Sethi, the son of renowned actors Archana Puran Singh and Parmeet Sethi, revealed that he lost Rs 87,000 due to a fraudulent charge on his credit card. In a recent vlog, he shared the experience with his family while trying to contact his credit card company to dispute the charge. Ayushmaan, who is popular on YouTube, had signed up for a seven-day free trial on a website, only to be shocked when he was billed for a full year without warning.
"I was charged Rs 87,000 on my credit card," he informed his mother, who suggested he reach out to the credit card company to cancel the charge. "They billed me for an entire year under the pretense of a seven-day free trial," he explained. When Parmeet laughed at his stressed demeanor, Archana quipped, "He will take that money from you. Why are you so happy?" Meanwhile, his brother Aaryamann teased him about the situation.
The vlog showed Ayushmaan struggling to get through to his bank, but to no avail. In the midst of the chaos, Aaryamann pointed out that this wasn’t the first time Ayushmaan had been scammed. Previously, during the filming of Choti Baatein, Rs 80,000 had been withdrawn from his PlayStation account, which he never managed to recover.
Ayushmaan attempted to clarify the situation further, stating, "Someone accessed my credit card without my permission. They advertised a seven-day trial, promising charges would only occur after that period. Instead, they charged me for the whole year upfront… without my consent." When Parmeet asked why he was always in such a hurry, a frustrated Ayushmaan replied that he was trying to handle the issue at hand. As his family laughed, he continued to work on resolving the problem. After several unsuccessful attempts, he decided to take a break and play some video games.
In the vlog, Ayushmaan mentioned he couldn’t remember the name of the website involved. "It’s not a shady site; I’ve used it before and found it reliable. However, they misled me about the seven-day free trial. Initially, they charged a $0 fee, which I accepted, but then they withdrew Rs 87,000 without my approval just an hour later." When Yogita asked how he keeps falling for such scams, he explained that the previous incident was out of his control. Parmeet reminded him that he had clicked a button allowing the site to withdraw funds from his credit card. The family has yet to provide any updates regarding the online fraud incident.
