The price of the Steam Controller appears to have leaked ahead of what is almost certainly an imminent release date. And judging by the potential price tag, gaming fans may want to start saving their cash for the upcoming Steam hardware line. If the leak is to be believed, then the Steam Controller will cost a whopping $99 when it launches in the US. That's roughly £75 based on the current exchange rate, which makes it more expensive than the standard Xbox Series and DualSense controllers.
The pricing was listed as part of a video review that appears to have gone live early (spotted by insider Wario64).
"Steam Controller will apparently cost $99, price mentioned in a review that accidentally went up early," Wario64 tweets. "Release/orders may be imminent.
"Also at 99 dollars, it's not cheap, but it's only 25 dollars more than a PS5 controller."
The review praises the trackpads, which are said to be extremely intuitive, albeit without the speed and accuracy that you would get with a regular mouse.
"Sure, you don't get anywhere near the speed and accuracy of a real mouse, but for opening a tab, inputting text on an onscreen keyboard, scrolling through documents and, of course, playing mouse-oriented games, it's amazing."
The d-pad and face buttons are also said to be a step up from the Steam Deck, and the build is described as rock solid, even if it doesn't have all the functionality of some of the ultra-premium controllers.
Needless to say, the appearance of the video coupled with the recent discovery of unlisted unboxing videos on the Steam Controller store page suggests that a release is imminent.
Fans are hopeful that the Steam Machine and Steam Frame headsets will also be available soon, although this remains unclear.
The Steam Machine will reportedly offer a gaming experience that's on par with the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
According to Valve, it provides 4K gaming at 60 frames-per-second with FSR, something that's said to be possible thanks to a discrete semi-custom AMD desktop class CPU and GPU.
Valve will offer two different versions, including one with 512GB of storage and another with 2TB. Fortunately, both also come with the ability to expand storage via microSD.
