King Charles's upcoming US state visit will go ahead despite gunshots being fired at a dinner attended by Donald Trump on Saturday night. Buckingham Palace has confirmed the King will travel to the US for the four-day visit later today as planned.
Gunshots were fired at the dinner, held at the Hilton Hotel in Washington DC, which led to Trump and his wife, Melania, being rushed out of the building. Cole Allen, 31, was arrested at the scene with just one person, a law enforcement officer, left injured.
Buckingham Palace said in a statement: "Following discussions on both sides of the Atlantic through the day, and acting on advice of Government, we can confirm the State Visit by Their Majesties will proceed as planned.
"The King and Queen are most grateful to all those who have worked at pace to ensure this remains the case and are looking forward to the visit getting under way tomorrow."
