Nedra Talley-Ross, a founding member of the pioneering 1960s girl group The Ronettes, has died at the age of 80. Her death was confirmed by the group on Sunday through Facebook, though no official cause was disclosed.
"It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Nedra Talley Ross' passing," the announcement stated. "She was a light to those who knew and loved her." Talley-Ross formed The Ronettes alongside her cousins, Ronnie Spector and Estelle Bennett. The trio became one of the most influential acts of the 1960s, playing a crucial role in defining modern pop music. Their iconic song Be My Baby stands as their most renowned achievement, reports the Express US.
Talley-Ross was the last surviving original member of the group.
"Nedra's voice, style, and spirit helped define a sound that would change music," the announcement continued. "Her contribution to the group's story and their defining influence will live forever. Rest peacefully, dear Nedra. Thanks for the magic."
Spector, considered one of rock's most distinctive vocalists, passed away in January 2022. Bennett died in 2021, making Talley-Ross the only remaining founding member.
In 2007, The Ronettes were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
