Different states of North India including Delhi are in the grip of extreme heat these days. Due to heatwave, people are facing health concerns while going out for work. In view of the increasing heat and heatwave across the country, the Ministry of Labor and Employment has issued an advisory to all the states and union territories. The government has especially asked to take immediate steps for the safety of laborers and workers working outside.
The ministry has directed the states to change the working timings for workers working in companies, factories and construction sites, so that work can be avoided in bright sunlight. Besides, it has been asked to make necessary arrangements for drinking water, resting place and cooling facilities.
The government has also said in the advisory that ice packs and heat protection items should be kept where needed. Emphasis has also been laid on regular health checkups of workers and maintaining coordination with the health department. Instructions have been given to workers working in factories and mines to keep the work speed low, give more breaks and take special care of ventilation.
Special attention has been asked to be given to construction workers, brick-kiln laborers and daily wage workers. The government has also given instructions to run awareness campaigns at Labor Chowk and public places, put up posters and banners and provide information about protection from heatwave. ESIC hospitals and dispensaries have been asked to create special help desks for heat stroke and maintain adequate stock of ORS and essential medicines. The government has made it clear that these steps taken in time will help in protecting both the health and work of the workers.
