An incredible hotel in the heart of one of the UK's most popular seaside towns has been put up for sale for £995,000 after being owned by the same family for almost seven decades. The Palm Court Hotel, located in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, has been a well-known fixture in the town for generations, attracting both tourists and locals with its traditional charm and prime location overlooking the Venetian Waterways and the seafront.
The four-storey hotel, which boasts 70 bedrooms, a bar, a 40cover restaurant and an 80cover breakfast room which also serves as a function room for 80 to 100 guests, offers a unique opportunity for prospective buyers to acquire a piece of Great Yarmouth's rich hospitality history. It is also the only hotel in the area with an indoor heated swimming pool and has 27 car parking spaces. The family-run business, now operated by a third generation, has been lovingly maintained over the years, preserving its classic Victorian features while still offering modern comforts.
According to Eastern Daily Press, Mark Phillips, senior associate at Fleurets who is selling the property, said: "The Palm Court Hotel has been a cornerstone of Great Yarmouth's hospitality scene for decades.
"Its strong mix of leisure and commercial trade, combined with its exceptional seafront position and longstanding reputation, makes it a compelling opportunity for an operator seeking an established coastal business with clear potential for further development."
Opened by Joe Delf in 1959, Palm Court Hotel has spanned three generations and is currently run by his grandsons, Nick and Jason, who have both worked at the hotel since they were teenagers, according to the hotel's website. They both manage the Palm Court Hotel and its sister hotel, Marine Lodge, which is just a short distance away.
Great Yarmouth, found on Norfolk's east coast, is visited by more than five million people every year, making it one of Britain's most popular seaside resorts, alongside the likes of Blackpool, Bournemouth and Scarborough. The town straddles the River Yare and is located 20 miles (32km) east of Norwich.
Originating as a medieval port town with a strong herring fishing heritage, it is known for its extensive "Golden Mile" sandy beaches and traditional amusement piers - Britannia and Wellington. It is heralded as a family-friendly destination with amusement arcades, donkey rides, the Sea Life Centre, and the 1932 Scenic Railway roller coaster.
In January, it was revealed that Great Yarmouth is set to undergo a major makeover this year. Plans were recently announced for The North Quay Project, which will see a cinema, shopping centre and flats being built, as well as a 120-room hotel in the North Quay area of the town. If plans go ahead, the regeneration of the area is expected to cost around £100 million. The plans have been in the making for 10 years, according to Great Yarmouth Borough Council leader, Carl Smith.
