Liquor shops are going to remain closed in the entire city on May 1 on the occasion of Buddha Purnima in Delhi. Delhi government has given this order. Apart from this, there will be some days in the future when liquor shops are going to remain closed. The Delhi government has decided to keep liquor shops closed on certain days from May to September. These days have been declared dry days. Along with this, it has also been said that strict action will be taken against those who violate the order.

Special instructions have also been issued for license holders, following which will be mandatory. Delhi Government declares dry days on dates every year. On Dry Day, the sale and supply of liquor is completely closed, that is, on that day, not only liquor shops remain closed, but liquor is also not available in bars, clubs and restaurants.

According to officials, this decision has been taken to maintain public decorum on important religious and national occasions. This decision has been taken under the provisions of Rule 52 of Delhi Excise Rules, 2010. According to the order of the Excise Department, these include Buddha Purnima (May 1), Eid-ul-Zuha (May 27), Muharram June 26, Independence Day (August 15) and Janmashtami (September 9). These days the sale of liquor will be completely closed.

The order states that this restriction will apply to all shops and business premises in the capital, but some big hotels (which have special licenses) may get exemption. The Excise Department has instructed licensed shopkeepers to post the department’s order to dry day on their notice boards. A warning has been given to take strict action and cancel the license against those who violate the order.
