This morning, a significant level of enthusiasm among voters was observed for the second and final phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections. According to data released by the Election Commission, voter turnout reached 18.39% within the first two hours after polling commenced at 7 AM, as reported by a senior official from the commission.
The official noted that by 9 AM, the highest voter turnout was recorded in the Purba Bardhaman district at 20.86%, followed closely by Hooghly district with 20.16%.
In Nadia, the turnout was 18.5%, while North 24 Parganas saw 17.81%, Kolkata North recorded 17.28%, South 24 Parganas had 17.25%, and Kolkata South reported 16.81%.
The official mentioned to a news agency, "Voting is proceeding peacefully, with only minor incidents reported in certain areas. We have requested reports from the relevant authorities."
The second and final phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections is taking place under unprecedented security across 142 assembly constituencies.
Polling began at 7 AM, with long queues of voters seen outside polling stations in Kolkata, Howrah, North and South 24 Parganas, Nadia, Hooghly, and Purba Bardhaman districts.
A total of 321,73,837 voters are eligible to cast their votes in this phase, comprising 1,64,35,627 men, 1,57,37,418 women, and 792 transgender voters. Voting is being conducted at 41,001 polling stations, which are being broadcasted via webcasting.
In this final phase, voting is taking place across 142 constituencies, where over 3.21 crore voters will determine the fate of 1,448 candidates.
