A man has been arrested after a woman was allegedly beaten to death and buried in a garden. The suspect, who is the son of the woman, is also accused of strangling his brother to death before burying him as well.

It's reported that an altercation broke out as the family were eating dinner earlier this month. The suspect, 43, allegedly launched an attack on his brother, which saw him strangle him from behind using a towel. After the victim collapsed to the floor, the suspect is then said to have stamped on his neck, chest and face. His attention then reportedly turned to his elderly mother as he struck her in the face, causing her to fall to the ground. He then allegedly lifted her up and threw her against a wall, which caused her death.

The brutal attacks took place in Nedumkandam, a town located in the Indian state of Kerala, on Saturday, April 4. Local police have since confirmed a 43-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of both murders and will appear in court on Wednesday (April 29).

Local media have reported that the suspect, identified as Saji, kept the bodies of his mother and brother inside the house overnight as he cleaned the property. The next day, he wrapped them in green net sheets and moved them to a shed.

The 43-year-old is then said to have carried on with his life normally over the next two days. He then reportedly dug a pit in the garden and buried his mother's body first, followed by his brother's body.

After being arrested, Saji told police that he carried out both murders alone. He remains in custody and will appear in court later on Wednesday.

Nedumkandam, with a population of just over 40,000, is a growing town in the Idukki district of Kerala, southwestern India. It is known for being surrounded by scenic and high-altitude terrain.
