Now there is no need to enter PIN for UPI payment up to Rs 5000, ICICI Bank has started a special facility.

ICICI Bank has announced the implementation of 'Biometric Authentication' for UPI transactions through its mobile banking app iMobile. This feature provides a better experience to users, allowing them to authorize transactions up to ₹5,000 through facial recognition or fingerprint. Under this new feature, the need to manually enter the UPI PIN for transactions up to the prescribed limit is eliminated.

Will not be a victim of fraud

The introduction of biometrics provides the benefits of both faster payments and security, as the risk of eavesdropping in public places (shoulder surfing) is reduced. Customers can now authorize UPI transactions such as peer-to-peer money transfers, payments by scanning QR at stores or online payments through their biometrics.

PIN will be imposed on transactions of more than Rs 5000

For transactions above ₹5,000, customers will need to enter their existing UPI PIN to confirm payment. An ICICI Bank spokesperson said, Protecting the interests of our customers has always been at the heart of our operations, and we believe in providing advanced digital solutions to our customers. The introduction of biometric authentication is in line with current regulatory guidelines, and is a meaningful step towards a more secure and seamless payments experience. By leveraging device-level biometric verification on iMobile, we aim to further strengthen the security of transactions while ensuring ease of use. Customers have the choice and There will also be an option to choose between PIN-based and biometric authentication depending on convenience.

Facility will be available here

This feature is available on the latest iMobile app versions for Android (v30) and iOS (v28.2). Android users can authorize transactions via fingerprint and iOS users can authorize transactions via face recognition.

This is the step by step process

  • Log in to iMobile app
  • Click on UPI Payments and select UPI Settings
  • Select account number to enable biometrics
  • Select Use biometric for payments and click on Proceed
  • Enter your UPI PIN for verification
  • Authenticate device-level biometric data
