When it first started airing, The Boys used to be a meta commentary and a play at how bad corruption has spread within politics. By the time it reaches its fifth season, it has become more of a gamble on whether it can predict just how bad things can get in the real world.
Fans could easily differentiate fiction from reality. However, that all changed when Donald Trump posted a photo of himself as God mere days before Homelander declared he wanted to be God too. Erik Kripke is also tired of the similarities.
Erik Kripke is Done with The Boys’ Jokes Being RuinedSpeaking with Polygon, Erik Kripke talked about how the world has become so twisted that an extreme satirical show like The Boys has turned into this weekly reality check. Mere days before Homelander went on his path to attain godhood, Donald Trump posted a photo of himself doing something very similar.

“I am really tired and weary of the world reflecting the show before we get a chance to do it. I appreciate the marketing. I’m just like, can you just please give us a chance to put some absurd satire out there before you prove that it's more realistic than we ever intended?”
Kripke continued, “A month ago, when we were talking about marketing, I was like, Homelander saying he’s God is so out there. We have to be careful about how we even introduce the idea to the public because they’ll say he’s gone too far and here we are. It’s just really hard to out-satire this world.”
It wasn't just that the show had somehow predicted something so absurd. It was also about the fact that this absurdism was something Kripke had been looking forward to. According to him, it could have been one of the greatest jokes of the season.
He was terrified because of how extreme it was and was afraid of how the audience would perceive it. His task was made simple in the blink of an eye. To make matters worse, it wasn't a joke anymore. So fans couldn't enjoy it in the way that they would have.
The Boys is on its final season, with weekly episodes being released. The latest marked a Supernatural reunion where fans could see Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles and Misha Collins on the same screen.
