The election results of 5 states and union territories including West Bengal and Kerala will be declared on May 4. But even before this, changes have been claimed in some states in the exit poll survey. The survey also talks about change of power in Kerala. According to the survey, the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) is returning to power after a wait of 10 years.
On the exit poll trends, IUML state president Panakkad Sadikali Shihab Thangal said that most of the exit poll surveys have predicted the victory of UDF. The election results may reflect anti-incumbency wave against the LDF government. He said that this is such an internal wave which was clearly visible in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and 2025 local body elections also. Expressing confidence in IUML's prospects, Thangal said that out of the 27 seats that the party had contested, the party can win 20 to 22 seats.
On speculation that IUML national general secretary PK Kunhalikutty could be projected as the deputy chief minister of the state, Thangal said the party has neither made any such claim nor has there been any discussion on the matter in the party. He said, "We have not made any claim. IUML will get what it deserves."
Responding to senior CPM leader AK Balan's criticism that projecting Kunhalikutty as deputy chief minister is part of Jamaat-e-Islami's agenda, Thangal said IUML works impartially and is guided by its long-standing commitment to secularism, democracy and communal harmony.
The IUML leader also gave a statement on the survey of Axis My India in which the Congress state president has been described as the second choice after Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. He said that it is the job of the Congress high command to take decisions, and I have full confidence that they will take decisions as per public sentiments.
