Reuben Owen, from Our Yorkshire Farm, received a telling off from his mother Amanda Owen following a spectacular mishap on the family farm.

In his spin-off programme, Reuben Owen: Life in The Dales, which broadcast a repeat episode on Saturday 2 May from series two, Reuben and his crew made an ill-fated attempt to repair the family road with catastrophic consequences.

When Reuben allowed one of his colleagues to operate his new 26 tonne loading shovel, the machine became mired in mud, wreaking havoc and causing destruction to the fields.

Yet matters deteriorated further when Reuben's mother, Amanda, arrived at precisely the wrong moment, piling additional pressure on the already-fraught young farmer.

Amanda said: "Does this alter the time frame for me getting my road mended?", the shepherdess then told the camera: "Well, I've just come down to see how Reuben is coming on with mending my road."

"But he seems to have not mended the road and he also seems to be wrecking the field and even better, it's not my field. It's our next door neighbour's.

"So it looks like things are not going to plan and actually, looks like a bit of a disaster at the moment."

Amanda, relishing the mayhem, then joked: "Look at Reuben's little face, even he is completely stumped as to what to do."

Thinking on his feet, Reuben swiftly devised a solution, enlisting one of the family's tractors to haul out the stricken loading shovel. His co-worker, who bore responsibility for the farming mishap, gallantly stepped forward to inform the neighbours of what had occurred - news which they received in good spirits.

Visibly flustered by the ordeal, Reuben joked: "You know when you feel like, you shouldn't have got out of bed this morning."

His mum Amanda then chimed in: "Sorry! I just came to see how it was going!" prompting a sarcastic retort from Reuben: "It's going well. It's going really well."

Amanda then cautioned: "I'll tell you something. Your dad's going to kill you" to which Reuben implored: "As far as I am aware, let's not mention this until we get it out..."
