Prince Harry spoke candidly this month about how he felt becoming a dad for the first time, opening up about the "struggle" he went through. In 2019, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle welcomed their first child Prince Archie into the world.

While Harry has always seemed to be a naturally paternal figure, the Duke of Sussex admitted that he felt a sense of "struggle" after Archie was born. Speaking at a Movember in Melbourne earlier this month, Harry said: "The role (fatherhood) gives you purpose. Those days, weeks, after birth are a real struggle.

"If I was stressed, the moment I held Archie... he would notice it quicker than I could."

While Harry was still a working royal at the time of Archie's birth, and still on talking terms with his older brother Prince William, it is believed the brothers weren't as close at the time.

One former royal editor believes if they were still close at the time, and in the years since, then Harry may have felt "less isolated" when becoming a dad for the first time.

Former royal editor Duncan Larcombe told New magazine: "Whenever I spoke to William about Harry back in the day, he was very, very protective of him, so I'm sure there will have been times in recent years when Harry missed the relationship with his brother.

"Their royal statuses aside, he will have missed having that person he turned to for support and advice, and maybe felt less isolated, especially when it came to becoming a father himself and struggling with elements of that experience."

Larcombe continued: "William had young kids already when Archie was born and he experienced the same childhood as Harry, so he would have been the perfect person for him to talk to, but sadly that's not how it's played out."

Since Prince Harry quit royal life in 2020, his relationship with Prince William has been tricky.

It is believed the brothers have not been on talking terms for some time, which is believed to be as a result of Harry's book Spare and the criticisms the duke has made about the Royal Family.

It is not known when the brothers last spoke to one another.
