Gujarat Titans win in low-scoring thriller, PBKS suffers second consecutive defeat

The 46th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 was played between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Punjab Kings (PBKS), which was low-scoring. In this match played in Ahmedabad on Sunday (3 May), PBKS recovered from a bad start and scored 163 runs at the loss of 9 wickets. While chasing the target, GT team was in control but in the last over it needed 11 runs to win. Now the match stood at a tie. Marcus Stoinis bowled the first ball of the 20th over wide. GT had to score 6 runs in 5 balls from here. Stoinis gave 3 runs in the next 3 balls. Now GT needed 3 runs in 2 balls. The contest had reached an exciting turn. PBKS team was also not ready to accept defeat. But Stoinis bowled a full toss on the fifth ball, which Washington Sundar sent for a six, giving GT its third consecutive win. Sai Sudarshan scored a half century

GT lost the wicket of captain Shubhman Gill (5) early in the chase of 164 runs. Sai Sudarshan and Jos Buttler took over his innings by making a half-century partnership. GT team seemed to be moving towards the target easily but Vijaykumar Vaishakh opened the match by taking the wicket of Jos Buttler (26). GT then lost the wicket of IPL debutant Nishant Sindhu (15) but Sudarshan remained stuck at one end. He maintained a steady lead for half a century but was out at the crucial juncture.

 

Sudarshan scored 57 runs in 41 balls. His wicket fell at the score of 124. At this time GT needed 40 runs in 31 balls. GT then lost the wickets of Rahul Tewatia (2) and Jason Holder, which increased its problems but Sundar stood till the end and took it to 12 points.

 

PBKS’s innings was disintegrated in the beginning

The PBKS team, which came to bat first, lost 5 wickets in 47 balls. Priyansh Arya (2), Prabhsimran Singh (15), Cooper Connolly (0), captain Shreyas Iyer (19) and Nehal Wadhera were all in the pavilion. From here Suryansh Shedge played a stormy inning of 57 runs in 29 balls. He along with Stoinis (40 in 31 balls) took PBKS to a fighting score but their efforts went in vain.

 

For GT, Jason Holder took 4 wickets for 24 runs in 4 overs. Mohammad Siraj and Kagiso Rabada took 2-2 wickets. Rashid Khan had one wicket in his account.
