Veteran Congress leader and candidate Mangudi is trying his luck again from here. Mangudi, a resident of Shankarpuram in Sivagangai district, is considered a staunch supporter of former Union Minister P. Chidambaram and MP Karti Chidambaram. In the last election, contesting on a Congress ticket from Karaikudi Assembly seat, he defeated BJP candidate H. Raja by a margin of 21,589 votes.
Before this, he was the President of Shankarpuram Panchayat from 2006 to 2016. In the year 2013, he was also made in-charge of the Congress assembly constituency. From 2016 to 2021, Mangudi was the district vice president. Then in 2021, he became a member of the All India Congress Committee and the State General Council. After this he became MLA in 2021.
NTK chief Seeman is trying to become MLA for the first time. Before this he contested elections twice and lost both times. Seeman contested the 2016 elections from Cuddalore assembly seat but did not get much support from the fishermen of the coastal area and had to face defeat. He stood fifth. Then in the 2021 elections, he chose Thiruvottiyur constituency, but lost there too. Now he is trying his luck from Karaikudi.
Seeman is very popular among his workers, he calls his workers 'Thambigal' i.e. younger brother. The main reason for contesting elections from Karaikudi is that his party NTK had performed well in Karaikudi in the last elections. The party had secured 23,000 votes in 2021.
