New Delhi: The results of the West Bengal Assembly elections are becoming clearer, with the TMC securing approximately 93 seats out of 293, while the BJP leads with 194 seats. Notably, AIMIM, led by Owaisi, has not won any seats in this election. However, despite this loss, AIMIM has achieved a significant outcome in one aspect. Previously, AIMIM faced accusations of siphoning off Muslim votes that would typically go to secular parties, thereby benefiting the BJP. The party has often been labeled as the BJP's B-team, but the election results indicate that AIMIM has failed to capture secular votes in Bengal.
After breaking its alliance with Humayun Kabir's Citizens' Upliftment Party, AIMIM fielded candidates in 12 constituencies, leaving Muslim-majority seats like Murshidabad, Bardhaman, Malda, Birbhum, and North 24 Parganas for its former ally. The election results reveal that the electorate has rejected both Owaisi and Kabir's parties. In the 12 constituencies where AIMIM contested, their candidates did not perform well, often finishing in fourth to eighth places. Most candidates failed to secure even 1,000 votes, with some receiving fewer than 100.
In Raghunathganj, TMC's Akhruzzama is leading with nearly 14,000 votes against Congress's Nasir Sheikh, while BJP's Surajit Poddar has around 10,000 votes. AIMIM's Imran Soanki has only received 795 votes.
In Asansol North, BJP's Krishnendu Mukherjee has garnered 28,000 votes, leading TMC's Moloy Ghatak by 11,000 votes. AIMIM's Danish Aziz has only 69 votes.
In Kandi, TMC's Apurva Sarkar leads with 4,773 votes, ahead of AIMIM's Misbahul Islam Khan, who has 3,005 votes. Congress's Sameer Rana and BJP's Gargi Das Ghosh follow.
In Sujapur, TMC's Sabina Yasmin has 31,457 votes, leading Congress's Abdul Hannan by 18,000 votes. AIMIM's Manirul Islam has only 1,360 votes.
In Mathabari, BJP's Nibaran Ghosh leads with 24,169 votes, while AIMIM's Mohammad Mustahid Haq is in fifth place with just 333 votes.
