Jonathan Tiersten dead: Beloved actor dies aged 60 as devastated fans pay tribute

Jonathan Tiersten died at the age of 60 at his home in New Jersey last week. The actor was best known for his role as Ricky Thomas in the 1983 cult classic Sleepaway Camp. His brother, William Tiersten, confirmed the tragic news to TMZ. He told the publication the medical examiner is investigating Jonathan's cause of death.

Tributes have poured in online as fans took to social media and paid tribute to the beloved actor. One X user wrote, "Damn.. 60 is too young. That Sleepaway Camp role was straight up unforgettable.. he nailed that raw awkward intensity that made the whole movie stick with us for decades. Appreciate the cult classic work he put in. Condolences to his family and everyone who knew him. RIP Jonathan."

Another echoed: "Damn, not Ricky!! RIP Jonathan. This is a sad day." A third penned: "Sad news about Jonathan Tiersten passing at 60. Sleepaway Camp was my go-to camp horror flick back in the day, that insane twist ending still gives me chills. He nailed the vibe that made it a cult fave. RIP to a true scream king."

Jonathan began his career in the early 1980s and made appearances in shows like the NBC soap Another World.

He secured his breakout role in the 1983 horror film, and he subsequently starred in two of the four sequel films - Return to Sleepaway Camp (2008) and Sleepaway Camp IV: The Survivor (2012).

The cult classic follows teenagers at summer camp, which becomes the site of a series of gruesome murders.

Jonathan was just a teen himself when he made his debut as as Angela's (played Felissa Rose) cousin Ricky in the original film.

He went on to star in another projects including The Perfect House, Terror Tales and Time's Up.

He also starred in thrillers such as Lake of Shadows, Last American Horror Show: Volume II, Redemption and many more.

One of his critically acclaimed roles was his portrayal of fictional serial killer John Doesy in the 2012 horror anthology The Perfect House.

For his role in the film, he won and was nominated for a number of awards at film festivals.

Jonathan is survived by his son and siblings.
