Summer Vacation 2026: When will summer vacations begin in UP, Delhi, Bihar, and Rajasthan?
This week, a noticeable drop in temperature has been recorded across several states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. While some regions experienced cool breezes, others witnessed rainfall, thunderstorms, or even hailstorms. Consequently, students—who had previously been longing for summer vacations to escape the oppressive heat—now find themselves in a state of confusion regarding their holidays due to the recent dip in temperatures. Based on the current schedules released so far, here is when summer vacations are set to begin in each state. (Note: The summer vacation schedule for private schools typically differs from that of government schools.)

Delhi: A Long 50-Day Break

The mercury continues to rise steadily in the national capital. Towards the end of April, temperatures here had already soared above the 40-degree mark. Although there has been some slight relief over the past two or three days, the weather conditions could take a sudden turn at any moment. Taking this into consideration, the Directorate of Education has announced that summer vacations in Delhi schools will run from May 11 to June 30, 2026. This means that students will enjoy a substantial break spanning a full 50 days. Subsequently, schools will reopen on July 1, 2026.

**Uttar Pradesh: Schools to Close from May 20**

According to the academic calendar of the UP Basic Education Council, government primary, upper primary, and composite schools across the state will observe holidays from May 20 to June 15. Private schools have decided to schedule their holidays independently, typically starting around May 15 or May 20. However, if the weather becomes excessively hot, the summer vacation may commence earlier; alternatively, District Magistrates may make decisions based on the specific weather conditions prevailing in their respective districts.

**Rajasthan: Relief from the Desert Heat**

According to the official calendar of the Rajasthan Education Department, schools in the state will remain closed from May 17 to June 20, 2026. In view of the scorching heat, school timings had already been revised in several districts. As is the practice every year, the summer vacation period may be extended beyond June 20. The decision to extend the summer vacation is often taken based on the prevailing weather conditions in the various districts.

**Bihar and Haryana: Fun-filled June**

According to the calendar issued by the Bihar Education Department, summer holidays have been scheduled from June 1 to June 20, 2026. Similarly, in Haryana, schools are expected to remain closed from June 1 to June 30. However, in both these states, orders to extend the holidays are frequently issued based on the prevailing weather conditions.

**Updates for West Bengal and Punjab**

The West Bengal government has already commenced summer holidays in all districts—with the exception of hilly regions such as Darjeeling and Kalimpong—due to the intense heat. In Punjab, too, holidays have been declared in various phases throughout the months of May and June.
**Note:** Please stay in contact with your teachers to obtain the exact dates for the 2026 summer vacation, as holiday schedules are often determined based on specific districts or individual schools.
