22nd Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship will be held in Delhi, players from 35 countries will participate

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday made the official announcement of the 22nd Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship 2026 (CTTC 2026) from the Delhi Secretariat. This prestigious international competition will be held at Tyagaraja Stadium, New Delhi from 27 July to 2 August 2026. This championship, being organized in joint collaboration with Delhi Government and Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI), is being considered a symbol of the return of international level sports events in the capital.

On this occasion, many dignitaries from the sports world including Delhi Government Cabinet Minister Ashish Sood, senior officials of the Sports Department, Commonwealth Table Tennis Federation Chairman Vivek Kohli, Commonwealth Table Tennis Federation Advisor Brijesh Mathur, Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) Vice President Shri Rajeev Duggal, Delhi State Table Tennis Association Vice President Deepali Gupta, Delhi State Table Tennis Association General Secretary Balbir Singh and Dronacharya Awardee Sandeep Gupta were present.

Players from which countries will participate?

Players and representatives from more than 35 Commonwealth countries including England, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Malaysia, Singapore, Scotland, Wales, Nigeria, Kenya, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago are expected to participate in this competition. It is believed to be one of the largest Commonwealth table tennis editions ever held. In this seven-day long competition, exciting competitions will be held in various categories, which will conclude with the grand final matches on August 2. Information related to ticketing, volunteer participation and detailed match schedule will also be released in the future.

Rekha Gupta spoke on Delhi's sports preparations

On this occasion, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that Delhi has been successfully hosting world class sports events for a long time and now organizing the Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship will further strengthen the capital on the global sports map. He said that the Delhi government is working with full commitment to provide world-class infrastructure, smooth arrangements and excellent sports environment for the players and spectators.

The Chief Minister said that Tyagaraja Stadium will be the main competition and function center of this championship. Equipped with modern facilities, this stadium will provide a world-class experience to the players and spectators. He said that this event will also showcase Delhi's hosting capacity, modern infrastructure and sports culture at the global level. He said that the Delhi government is continuously working to promote sports infrastructure and international sports events keeping in mind the goal of Vision 2036 Olympics.

Enthusiasm and participation towards sports will increase among youth

On this occasion, Delhi Government Cabinet Minister Ashish Sood said that the Delhi Government is continuously working to establish the capital as the major sports capital of the country and organizing the 22nd Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship 2026 will prove to be an important step in this direction. He said that such international level events will not only strengthen Delhi's global sports identity but will also increase enthusiasm and participation in sports among the youth.

Sood further said that this championship will provide a golden opportunity to the emerging table tennis players of India to showcase their talent on the world stage. Also, the Indian team will enter as a strong contender on the home ground, which will further strengthen the morale and confidence of the country's players. He expressed confidence that this event will give new energy to the sports culture as well as establish Delhi as a preferred destination for international sports events.
