Summer is fast approaching, and with that comes summer holidays, However, everyone knows the feeling of getting back from a break and feeling absolutely exhausted because you've tried to cram too much in.
If you are sick of getting back home only to feel like you need a holiday to recover from your holiday, it's time to start prioritising slow travel. One of the best ways you can embrace the slow travel trend is by choosing locations that let you slow down and enjoy nature. Walking holidays are a great way to do this.
Dave Mills, Chief Commercial Officer at Iglu Cruise, said: "Walking holidays offer flexibility and adventure, teaching travellers to enjoy the present moment and savour their travel experiences. You can still see the sights, but a more leisurely pace can offer a more rewarding trip."
To help you choose the right spot to visit, travel experts have revealed the top European city breaks that also allow you to enjoy some truly gorgeous walking trails.
By using data from outdoor app AllTrails they have found the cities with the most walking trails within 15 minutes of the city centre. Coming in first place is Berlin in Germany.
This city has a whopping 330 trails located in and around the capital, and the vast majority of them have less than 150m of elevation gain, which makes them perfect for all ages and abilities, especially those over 60.
One of the most famous sites of Berlin is the remnants of the Berlin Wall. Although the entire route is over 99 miles, the central segment is the most popular. This walk combines history with modern street culture and stretches for around nine miles. You can walk past the famous Bernauer Straße Memorial, the best-preserved section of the wall with an outdoor museum.
If you want to see a part of the city that tourists often miss, then the Panke River Walk is the perfect hike for you. This trail is in northern Berlin and stretches for around five miles. It's popular with locals and will take you through lush public parks and gardens that tourists rarely see.
For even more nature, try the Havel Heights Trail which winds 7.5 miles through Grunewald Forest. It takes walkers along the banks of the Havel River and offers stunning views across the water.
