Legendary 80s singer Bonnie Tyler has been put in a medically induced coma after she was rushed to a hospital for surgery suffering from a perforated intestine. It is understood the Total Eclipse of the Heart singer, 74, underwent surgery in the Algarve, which she has called her home since 1988. Following speculation about her recovery, her manager issued a statement to Page Six which read: "Bonnie has been put into an induced coma by her Doctors to aid her recovery. We know that you all wish her well and ask for privacy at this difficult time, please. We will issue a further statement when we are able to."

On Wednesday April 6 the star's team shared the news of her hospitalisation on her offical website and social media pages. "We are very sorry to announce that Bonnie has been admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she has a home, for emergency intestinal surgery," the statement read.

"The surgery went well, and she is now recuperating. We know that all of her family, friends, and fans will be concerned about this news and will be wishing her well for a full and swift recovery," it concluded.

The singer's 2026 European tour is currently scheduled to begin in Malta on May 22 and at the moment it remains unclear whether the shows will go ahead.

Just two months ago in early March she had discussed her health in an interview with Hello!magazine and assured readers she was feeling fit and healthy.

"I'm fit enough at the moment, touch wood, and I'm really enjoying doing the shows. I'm still rocking on that stage with my wonderful band, and if you've got your health, you've got everything," she added.

However the star, who has been married to property developer Robert Sullivan since 1973, admitted to previously having surgery on her knees which had forced her to reschedule 2025 concerts.

"I didn't [get] new knees. I had what they call washouts, which turned out to be very successful. So, hopefully that will last for a long time," she told the publication.

The hitmaker is best known for her smash hit No.1 single Total Eclipse of the Heart which topped the charts worldwide in 1983. She also enjoyed several other top ten hits, including It's A Heartache and Holding Out for a Hero.

In 2013 she was the UK's representative at the Eurovision Song Contest finishing in 19th place with her song, Believe In Me.
