A former Channel 4 reality star has been elected as a councillor for Reform UK after switching careers from TV to politics. Big Brother star Alex Sibley, who appeared alongside stars like Jade Goody and Alison Hammond on the reality show back in series three, has won himself a council seat for Emerson Park in Havering.

He won with 1255 votes, while his fellow Reform candidate David Johnson was also elected. Reform took the majority vote for Havering and became the first London council to be controlled by Nigel Farage's party. Simultaneously, the Green Party has elected its first London mayor, Zoe Garbett, in Hackney.

Alex took a step back from the limelight in the early noughties, after being involved in a collision that killed 63-year-old butcher Kurt Lange. Alex was driving his BMW in Essex when Lange ran out in front of the vehicle, but the case was dropped due to insufficient evidence in 2006.

Alex denied driving dangerously, but said his TV work dried up afterwards.

He told The Sun: "A major thing happened in my life. A guy ran into the side of my car and died from his injuries.

"I lost my kids TV programme. I had a live show on Nickelodeon, and I was about to do panto.

"Because that all lost I then started f***ing hating Big Brother because it was my stepping stone into doing something else. I was making a lot of money. The first year I made nearly £250,000 which is insane."

He "blamed" the police for the length of the investigation, and instead started a career in affordable housing. He married a French ballerina, with whom he shares four children.
