Belthangady: The KSRTC bus stand in Belthangady town, which had turned into a place of disorder, has now been cleaned and whitewashed. The action came after a report published in Udayavani highlighted the poor condition of the passengers’ waiting area, which was filled with dust and garbage, making passengers uncomfortable to sit there.

Several unwanted materials had been stored inside the waiting area like a warehouse. The seating arrangements had become rusty and damaged. Old juice trays, gunny bags and other unused items kept inside the stand have now been removed. The faded walls have been painted with lime wash, improving the appearance of the place. Passengers can now sit comfortably in the waiting area.

Action taken after report

Construction work of the new KSRTC bus stand is currently underway. The existing structure is only a temporary waiting area. Officials said the cleaning and painting work was taken up after noticing the Udayavani report about the problems at the stand.

“We will also repair the seating arrangements. Once the new bus stand is completed, such issues will not arise. Since the present temporary structure belongs to the Town Panchayat, major development work cannot be carried out now,” said Haribabu, Divisional Controller, Puttur.
