A 23-year-old software engineer was allegedly assaulted, robbed, and thrown off a bridge by two men in Dehradun, police said.

According to a complaint filed by the victim’s father, Vinod Kumar, his son Akash Kumar was waiting for a bike taxi at Sahastradhara crossing around 2:15 am on Thursday after completing his night shift. During this time, two men on a scooter allegedly forced him to accompany them.

The accused reportedly took him to Jamunwala Bridge near Hanuman Temple, where they assaulted him and robbed him of two mobile phones and Rs 600 in cash. They then allegedly threw him off the bridge, leaving him critically injured.

“The fall left Akash with a spinal fracture, and he remained injured through the night, struggling to survive among the rocks along the riverbank.”

By morning, passersby heard his cries for help and alerted nearby army personnel. “He was promptly rescued and taken to Doon Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment,” police said.

Following the complaint, Premnagar police have registered a case against unidentified individuals and initiated an investigation.

“We are examining CCTV footage from surrounding areas and actively searching for the accused. The victim is still not in a condition—mentally or physically—to provide a clear account of the incident,” said Jitendra Kumar, sub-inspector at Premnagar Police Station.
