Fuming McDonald's fans have jokingly renamed one of the restaurant's most popular burgers. It seems not even the fast foodgiant is immune to shrinkflation.

Disgruntled punters have been left sorely disappointed by the current state of one of the iconic brand's most cherished menu items - claiming it has shrunk in size despite still commanding a £7.19 price tag.

The Big Tasty is one of the most coveted offerings on the fast food chain's UK menu, available for a limited period throughout the year. The £7.19 item made its return to shelves on 28 Apr, as reported by creatorzine.com.

Yet some fans have since been left thoroughly disheartened - claiming the cost of living crisis has claimed yet another classic victim.

One customer was so taken aback by the burger's size that he was convinced he had been handed the "wrong thing".

The irate punter said: "Absolutely loved the Big Tasty. I thought they gave me the wrong thing. I haven't been paying attention to this, I think it's even the same price. What the f***."

The beef burger features cheese slices, lettuce, onions, juicy tomato and a distinctive sauce, all served on a sesame seed bun.

The double Big Tasty is likewise available for a limited time only.

One person remarked: "It's now a medium tasty."

Another added: "Shrinkflation."

A third chimed in: "I'm old enough to remember when the big mac actually used to be big as well." [sic] One disgruntled customer remarked: "It doesn't look very big or tasty to be honest."

A further critic chimed in: "They butchered another classic."

A McDonalds spokesperson told the Express: "We're always listening to our customers and evolving our menu to reflect their feedback. They told us they love their McDonald's favourites but want more choice on size, so we've delivered.

"Our iconic Big Tasty now comes in two sizes - first launched last November - and is perfect for every appetite with the double now providing more Big Tasty than ever before! Whether customers choose one patty or two, they'll still enjoy that unmistakable Big Tasty flavour they know and love."
