Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday for suggesting that citizens should refrain from spending on gold for a year and reduce their consumption of cooking oil. In a post on X, the former Chief Minister of Delhi urged the government to disclose the true state of the nation's economy.
Kejriwal remarked, “The Prime Minister has advised all citizens to cut back on spending for food, travel, and tourism, and even to limit purchases of gold and other precious items. Does this indicate an economic emergency? Is the country submerged in a serious economic crisis? Such a situation has never occurred before in our nation.”
Kejriwal emphasized that the Prime Minister should present the truth to the public. What is the actual condition of the country's economy? He referenced Modi's speech in Secunderabad, where the Prime Minister urged citizens to reduce dependence on imports, minimize cooking oil consumption where possible, and utilize local products to strengthen the economy amidst disruptions in the global supply chain and rising costs due to international conflicts.
He urged the public to avoid unnecessary purchases of gold for a year and to refrain from international travel. The Prime Minister also encouraged citizens to reduce their consumption of petrol and diesel, utilize public transport, consider carpooling, prioritize rail transport for freight, and promote natural farming practices.
