The history of IPL is 18 years old. Its 19th season is being played. But do you know how many matches were held during this period in which the spinners did not bowl a single ball. The latest example of this in the history of IPL was seen on 11 May in Dharamshala, where the match was played between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals. In this match, the spinners did not bowl even a single ball leave alone an over.

A total of 10 bowlers were tried in the match including Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals. Those 10 bowlers together bowled 39 overs. But among those 10 bowlers, neither was there a single spinner nor was a single over of spin seen. The entire 39 overs were bowled by fast bowlers only.

Spinners did not bowl in CSK vs RCB match 18 years ago

However, this is not the first match of IPL in which the spinners did not bowl a single ball. Before and last time this was seen in the first season of IPL only. On 28 April 2008, the match was played between CSK and RCB at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, in which not a single over of spin was seen. In that match played in IPL 2028, CSK and RCB together tried a total of 10 bowlers. But, there was not a single spinner left. That was the 15th match played in IPL 2008, in which 10 bowlers together bowled 39.4 overs.

Condition may be the reason for not handing the ball to spinners

There were only two matches in the history of IPL, in which not a single over or ball was played by the spinners. The reason behind this happening could be the favorable conditions for the fast bowlers. DC captain Axar Patel has given this reason behind his decision not to bowl to the spinners in the match between Punjab and Delhi.
