Kidney Stone Causes: Kidney stone diseases have become common these days. Our unhealthy diet is also considered to be one of the reasons for this. Things like our diet and time delay make the kidneys sick. There are many parts of our body and each has a different function. Kidney is also one of them. Its function is to purify the blood and prevent toxin buildup in the body. If you also want to avoid fatal kidney diseases like stones or kidney failure, then know its reasons.
According to Dr. Vineet Malhotra, Senior Urologist, VNA Hospital, Delhi, our daily eating habits are gradually damaging the kidney health. Kidneys work to remove dirt and toxins from the body, control blood pressure and maintain the balance of essential minerals in the body. But if the diet includes too much salt, sugar and processed food, then there is more pressure on the kidneys. Continuous poor eating habits can cause serious problems like kidney stones and chronic kidney disease.
Packaged snacks, chips, instant noodles, processed foods, pickles and chutneys contain high amounts of sodium. Consuming too much salt can increase BP, which is considered a major cause of kidney damage. In such a situation, eating fresh and home-made food is considered safer.
Sugary beverages like soda, cold drinks and packed juices also harm the kidneys. Excess sugar increases the risk of obesity and type-2 diabetes, which can later lead to kidney disease.
Health experts say that protein is important for our body, but consuming excessive red meat or high-protein diet puts more pressure on the kidneys. Therefore, protein intake should be done in balanced quantity.
According to Dr. Vineet Malhotra, an element called oxalate is found in some food items. This element becomes the cause of kidney stone formation in some people. Spinach, beetroot, nuts and chocolate contain high amounts of oxalate. However, they are not completely harmful, but people who have already had the problem of kidney stones or have a family history of them should consume them in limited quantities.
Nowadays, fast food and processed meals contain high amounts of salt, unhealthy fats and preservatives. Their continuous consumption has a bad effect not only on kidneys but also on heart health and body weight.
By not drinking enough water, urine becomes more concentrated, which increases the risk of kidney stone formation. By drinking the right amount of water, the kidneys are able to remove toxins from the body in a better way.
