A very big and important news is coming for all the citizens living in the capital Delhi. If you are a voter of Delhi or are going to become a voter soon, then this news is for you only. To make the voter list in Delhi brand new and accurate, the dates for the ‘Special Intensive Revision’ (SIR) campaign have been announced. Following the strict instructions of the Election Commission, this big campaign is going to be formally started from June 20 with training and other preparations.
According to the information received from top officials of the Election Commission, under this mega-campaign, from June 30, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will start the survey work by going directly to your homes. The main objective of this campaign is to verify all the information of voters on the spot. Along with this, during this time, names of those youth who are eligible to become new voters will also be added to the voter list. That means, if your name is not in the voter list yet, then you will have a golden opportunity.
According to the official schedule released by the Election Commission, this entire campaign will be completed with utmost care in different phases. First of all, a draft voter list will be published on 5th August. After this, if any citizen has any objection to his name, address or any other information or wants to make any correction, then he will be able to register his claims and objections officially from 5th August to 4th September.
Officials further said that all these claims and objections received from the public will be settled by October 3 under all circumstances. After this, after all the necessary reforms, deductions and addition of new names, the final voter list of Delhi will be published on 7th October.
A senior official of the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer’s office has confirmed that all necessary preparations have been completed by the department regarding this SIR campaign in the capital. This time, under the process, the data of more than 1.5 crore voters of Delhi will be thoroughly reviewed. According to the fixed program, before starting the work at the ground level, special training will be given to the concerned employees and BLOs, so that when they go among the public, they can fact-check the names, addresses and other details with complete accuracy.
To implement this order of the Election Commission, an army of more than 13 thousand BLOs is being deployed in the streets and neighborhoods of Delhi. These employees will come directly to your doorstep and match the details entered in the voter list. During the training program, these employees will be taught the nuances of conducting surveys, proper verification of necessary documents and methods of updating digital data so that the entire process can be completed smoothly without any glitches.
When this special campaign is being started in Delhi, the old controversy of alleged duplication of names in the voter list (name of the same voter being named at two places) has again come into discussion. Let us remind you that last year, while hearing a petition, the Delhi High Court had given strict instructions to the Election Commission to look into this serious issue. The court had clearly said that modern technology should be used vigorously to prevent any kind of fraud or duplication of names in the voter list of the country’s capital so that the electoral process remains completely transparent.
However, the petitioner had then expressed concern that by the time the Election Commission completes the long process of correcting this voter list, the Delhi Assembly elections will be over or over. Commenting on this, the High Court had clarified that there is a fixed legal process for any kind of amendment and correction in the voter list, which is very important to be followed completely.
