However, following the death of a friend, Esther Earl, Green returned to it in 2010 and completed it.

The Fault in Our Stars follows Hazel Grace Lancaster, a teenager living with cancer. At the request of her mother, Hazel attends a support group where she meets Augustus Waters, an 18-year-old with bone cancer. As they spend more time together, their friendship turns to love. Meanwhile, Augustus takes Hazel to Amsterdam to meet the author of her favorite book. However, after returning home, a tragedy strikes the couple.

Josh Boone directed the film with a screenplay by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber. It stars Shailene Woodley as Hazel, Ansel Elgort as Augustus, Laura Dern as Frannie, Nat Wolff as Isaac, Sam Trammell as Michael, and Willem Dafoe as Peter Van Houten, among others.

The Fault in Our Stars premiered at the 2014 Seattle International Film Festival on May 16. It opened in theaters a month later on June 6, 2014. Owing to its deeply emotional story and authentic performances, the film received high praise from nearly everyone.

On Rotten Tomatoesthe film has a critics’ rating of 81% and a user rating of 85%. Its biggest success came at the box office. Reportedly, the film cost only $12 million to make and earned $307.1 million at the global box office.
