Raigarh: Raigarh Police of Chhattisgarh has taken major action in Goa by busting a big interstate syndicate of online cricket betting. This network was operating illegal betting worth crores of rupees in the name of IPL cricket matches and its scope extended from Raigarh, Raipur, Nagpur to Goa and Dubai.
Under the direction of Superintendent of Police Shashi Mohan Singh, the cyber team raided a rented villa located in Candolim Beach, Goa and arrested six betting operators. The arrested accused include Amit Mittal, Mohit Somani, Prakash Wadhwani, Akash Motwani, Rahul Khandelwal alias Babu and Sulabh Khandelwal alias Chhota Babu. Police investigation has revealed that the gang was operating online betting on IPL matches through platforms called “Abhinandan Book” and “Line”.
The accused used to send betting rates to agents and players through APK based applications. The investigation also revealed that speculative trading was being carried out on the basis of information received about 7 seconds in advance, using the technical advantage of live TV feed. This entire network was developed on the lines of Mahadev Satta App.
According to the police, this network operated through betting IDs obtained from Dubai and was expanded through agents in several cities of Central India including Raipur, Nagpur. This gang was working on a commission based system on every transaction. During the raid, the accused were trying to destroy the evidence, however, the police seized 10 mobile phones, laptops and other digital evidence from the spot. Preliminary investigation has also revealed indications of transactions worth crores of rupees through Hawala network. The police is now busy investigating the network of this entire syndicate spread in other states and cities.
